Ingredients
Main Ingredients
-
1 medium seedless watermelon – sliced into ¾-inch rounds
-
1–2 pints fresh blueberries – washed and dried
-
Wooden skewers – standard 6–8 inch skewers work best
Optional Add-ins
-
Strawberries (halved)
-
Raspberries
-
Marshmallows or banana slices (for a white element)
-
Cubes of angel food cake
-
Grapes, cherries, or melon balls
Tools
-
Star-shaped cookie cutter (about 2–3 inches wide)
-
Sharp knife
-
Cutting board
-
Serving platter or tray
Instructions
Step 1: Prep the Watermelon
-
Cut the watermelon into thick rounds—about ¾-inch to 1-inch thick.
-
Lay slices flat on a cutting board.
-
Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to punch out watermelon stars.
-
Set stars aside in a large bowl or tray.
Step 2: Prepare the Blueberries
-
Rinse blueberries in cold water.
-
Dry thoroughly on a paper towel or clean kitchen cloth.
-
Set aside for assembly.
Step 3: Assemble the Skewers
-
Take a wooden skewer and gently slide on 4–6 blueberries.
-
Add one watermelon star to the end of the skewer.
-
Alternate fruit if desired: add another layer of blueberries or a marshmallow.
-
Repeat with remaining skewers.
Step 4: Chill and Serve
-
Arrange skewers on a large platter in rows or a circular fan pattern.
-
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until serving time.
-
Serve cold with or without a dipping sauce.
Notes
Always use firm, seedless watermelon for the best clean star cuts. And keep everything cold until serving—warm fruit doesn’t hit the same.
