patriotic fruit kabob skewers

Patriotic Fruit Kabob Skewers for 4th of July Parties

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 medium seedless watermelon – sliced into ¾-inch rounds

  • 12 pints fresh blueberries – washed and dried

  • Wooden skewers – standard 6–8 inch skewers work best

Optional Add-ins

  • Strawberries (halved)

  • Raspberries

  • Marshmallows or banana slices (for a white element)

  • Cubes of angel food cake

  • Grapes, cherries, or melon balls

Tools

  • Star-shaped cookie cutter (about 2–3 inches wide)

  • Sharp knife

  • Cutting board

  • Serving platter or tray

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Watermelon

  1. Cut the watermelon into thick rounds—about ¾-inch to 1-inch thick.

  2. Lay slices flat on a cutting board.

  3. Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to punch out watermelon stars.

  4. Set stars aside in a large bowl or tray.

Step 2: Prepare the Blueberries

  1. Rinse blueberries in cold water.

  2. Dry thoroughly on a paper towel or clean kitchen cloth.

  3. Set aside for assembly.

Step 3: Assemble the Skewers

  1. Take a wooden skewer and gently slide on 4–6 blueberries.

  2. Add one watermelon star to the end of the skewer.

  3. Alternate fruit if desired: add another layer of blueberries or a marshmallow.

  4. Repeat with remaining skewers.

Step 4: Chill and Serve

  1. Arrange skewers on a large platter in rows or a circular fan pattern.

  2. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until serving time.

  3. Serve cold with or without a dipping sauce.

Notes

Always use firm, seedless watermelon for the best clean star cuts. And keep everything cold until serving—warm fruit doesn’t hit the same.
