- 3 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp preferred)
- 1 (11 oz) bag soft caramel candies (like Kraft or Werther’s)
- 1 tablespoon heavy cream or milk
- Toppings: mini chocolate chips, crushed nuts, sprinkles, crushed cookies, sea salt, etc.
- Lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)
- Parchment paper
- Lollipop sticks or toothpicks (optional)
Instructions
- Prep Apples: Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Slice into 1/2-inch thick rounds or wedges, removing seeds. If you want them stick-style, insert a lollipop stick into each slice.
- Prevent Browning: Lightly brush apple slices with lemon juice if desired.
- Melt Caramel: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine caramels and cream. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until smooth.
- Dip Slices: Dip each slice halfway into the caramel or use a spoon to coat. Let excess drip off.
- Add Toppings: Immediately press or sprinkle toppings onto caramel side.
- Cool: Place slices on parchment-lined tray and chill in the fridge for 10-15 minutes until caramel sets.
Notes
Don’t slice too thin or the apples won’t hold the caramel. Aim for about 1/2-inch thickness for best results.
