Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apple, finely diced
- 30 small pretzel twists or squares
- 15 soft caramel candies (like Werther’s Original or Kraft), unwrapped
- 1 tablespoon heavy cream or milk
- 1/4 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (optional)
- Sea salt, for sprinkling (optional)
- Toothpicks, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: Dice the apple into small pieces, about the size of a blueberry. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
- Melt Caramels: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine caramels and heavy cream. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until smooth.
- Assemble Bites: Lay out half the pretzels on a parchment-lined tray. Add a small spoonful of caramel on each. Top with a piece of apple, then press another pretzel on top like a sandwich.
- Drizzle Chocolate (Optional): Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Drizzle over the assembled bites using a spoon or piping bag.
- Add Sea Salt (Optional): While chocolate is still wet, sprinkle a tiny bit of sea salt for added flavor punch.
- Cool & Set: Let the bites set at room temperature or refrigerate for 10-15 minutes until the caramel firms up.
Notes
Pat your apple pieces dry. Too much juice will make the caramel slide off or make the pretzels soggy.
