4th of July Rice Krispie Treats

Easy 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats with Red, White & Blue

Ingredients

Scale

Base Recipe (for 1 layer)

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 4 cups mini marshmallows

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

  • Food coloring (red and blue for colored layers)

Toppings & Extras

  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles

  • White chocolate drizzle

  • Star-shaped cookie cutter (optional)

  • Parchment paper for lining

Full Layered Version

For a three-color layered pan (red, white, blue), triple the recipe and divide as follows:

  • Red layer: add red food coloring to melted marshmallows before adding cereal

  • White layer: classic, no coloring

  • Blue layer: add blue food coloring to marshmallow mix

Instructions

Step 1: Prep Your Pan

  1. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

  2. Lightly grease the paper with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2: Make the First Layer (Red)

  1. In a large pot, melt 3 tbsp butter over low heat.

  2. Add 4 cups marshmallows and stir until smooth.

  3. Add red food coloring and stir to combine.

  4. Remove from heat and quickly fold in 6 cups cereal until evenly coated.

  5. Press mixture into the bottom of the pan using buttered hands or wax paper.

Step 3: Repeat for White and Blue Layers

  1. Repeat the same steps without food coloring for the white layer.

  2. Then repeat with blue food coloring for the blue layer.

  3. Press each layer gently on top of the previous one while still warm.

Step 4: Decorate

  1. Once all layers are set, top with sprinkles while still slightly sticky, or drizzle with melted white chocolate.

  2. Let cool completely at room temperature (or refrigerate briefly if needed).

Step 5: Slice & Serve

  1. Lift the whole slab from the pan using parchment paper.

  2. Slice into squares, rectangles, or use cookie cutters for fun shapes.

  3. Serve and watch them vanish.

Notes

If you want vibrant colors, use gel food coloring—liquid types may water down the mixture.
